Dante’s Square, currently penalized by the use as a motorcycle parking, is characterized by the presence of medieval features and of some more recent valuable buildings of the rationalist era. Among the site’s architectures, the “genius loci” is the strongly evocative presence of the alleged “House of Columbus.”
The project involves the redevelopment of the area, which will become totally pedestrian.
The design is inspired by the multiplicity of excellent architectures around the square and reconstructs the urban identity of the place, collecting and sorting the interrupted tracks and the suggestions evoked by the various monuments and historical values.
The minimalist furnishing of the square, with the use of precious stone floors and palm trees, is gathered around a large ornamental fountain that will remind in its design, with water games and special effects, the European and Atlantic American coasts, departure and arrival places of Christopher Columbus.
