The project consists of a building containing around 1,700 m² of commercial premises. Situated on a plot comprising two terraces, the project takes advantage of the topography to create a volume that is flush with the ground and blends seamlessly into its context. The current programme includes only commercial premises, but the building needs to allow functions to evolve. To achieve this, we chose a grid façade made up of light-coloured concrete elements with 4 m wide ‘voids’ between them. In order to give the design of the façade a vertical aspect, the ‘gaps’ are filled by a juxtaposition of 5 elements (glazing or panels) 80 cm wide by 2.30 m high. Cornices stratify the building with strong horizontal elements reminiscent of the terraced landscapes typical of the region. However, the vertical layout is punctuated by slight offsets from one level to the next. In this way, the levels stack up like the strata of a geological formation, characteristic of the Saint-Jeannet landscape.
